The Peak of my Expertise - The Gizzard
Well this was a beast of effort, enjoyment, love and strife. It turned out great and is now being played my the deft hands of a friend of mine. She purrs, looks splendid and will make music for years to come. One of one out of pure Canadian maple.
Ah personalized stick for the old man
I wanted my dad to walk in style, and be able to hydrate when necessary. This stick was carved out of ash, and then had a hip flask mounted into the grip.
My take on the laptop stand
I use wood and copper everywhere else, so thought I would give this laptop stand the treatment too. This was made as a prize for the Habitat for Humanity charity.
Charcuterie Portfolio
Cheese and meats are a decadent snack, they should be displayed in a way that is fitting. As such we created a selection of unique boards for the festive season.
A selection from the Christmas fair
Here are a few products that we put together for the Christmas markets around Vancouver. From coasters to bottle stoppers, wine carriers lamps and charcuterie boards. We did it all.
Rooted In Copper
Using a driftwood root ball that was salvaged from the foreshore trail, this tall lamp has a solid, grounded stance that rises to an elegant end.
Out of the Old comes the New
With this lamp there is a clean contrast between the almost skeleton like piece of drift wood and the smooth copper tones of the shade. Rather like a metallic mushroom bursting out from a long forgotten tree.
The lamp that carries itself
This wood log was salvaged from a fallen tree. It was naturally hollow inside from decomposition which I then burnt to give the curved face a more level finish. I gloss coated to reflect the light back out of the holes. Trees with a burnt core are quite common from both wildfires and lightning strikes across BC. Some uniform holes were added to reduce weight and let the light diffuse and scatter across nearby walls. The copper pipe stand below was intricately designed to provide heavy duty support as well as a striking interconnection of sides.
Drifting Birch Lamp
I found this near perfect silver birch cylinder washed up on the Foreshore Trail. It is remarkably intact and has become hardened from its life at sea. Just right for a well sized lampshade. It has been painted a warm metallic copper on the inside to help the light glow from both top and bottom, as well as seeping out of the imperfections throughout the piece of bark. The base is a simple, modern shape of polished copper pipe.
Driftwood Chess Set
This was just a bit of fun for a wedding present for some close friends. The board was made out bark from a giant Douglas fir, washed up on the beach of Vancouver, all the pieces were scavenged from the shoreline and mounted on metal bases. It is a mystical set, each piece feels like some form of caricature from a fantasy film.
